Barnett arrested for attempted murder

Johnnie Leon Barnett, 77, of Lueders was arrested on Monday, April 15 and charged with two counts of attempted capital murder, about three weeks after he allegedly tried to hit Shackelford County sheriff Ed Miller with his vehicle and then rammed a deputy’s vehicle.

The bond on each charge was placed at $1,000,000, and Barnett remained in the Shackelford County jail at press time.

Barnett sustained injuries during the original altercation, which took place March 27 near a TxDOT work site in the Lueders area, and he was hospitalized, according to Miller.

He was not arrested until after he was released from Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. The arrest wasmadebyJonesand Taylor county law officers.
