Car show planned April 20

The 17th annual Albany Classic Car Show is revved up and ready to go in downtown Albany on Saturday, April 20, with the public urged to come see dozens of vintage cars and trucks from around the Big Country.

Organizer Robert Snyder said activities will actually begin on Friday, April 19 with a hamburger supper starting about 5:15 p.m. at the Bank Park.

“The car club will host a Burger Burn fundraiser, and car owners can ‘cruise; during that time if they want to,” Snyder said. “Then we will start the burnout next to the Bank Park about 6:30 p.m.”

Kids’ Drag Race

Also taking place during the Friday evening meal will be a special “drag race” for younger children that Angel Pacinins is organizing.

Snyder said that Pacinins will provide several motorized vehicles, and cones will be set up in the street beside the Bank Park, which will be cordoned off for the event.

“We’llsetupsomecones, and let the kids race before the burnout,” Snyder said.

Saturday Show

Even with rain in the forecast for Saturday, Snyder is hopeful that Saturday’s event will be successful.

“There are actually several other car shows in the area this year on the same date this year, even though we try to avoid that by publicizing our date way ahead of time,” Snyder said. “We almost always have a good show, and I think we will again this year.”

The rain-out date for the 2024 show is Saturday, May 18.

Registration for exhibitors is from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle, with over 25 classes to enter. Specialty and individual awards will be handed out for both cars and trucks.

“We have both a car and truck division to Best of Show, and people really like that,” he said. “And we also created Peoples’ Choice Awards for both cars and trucks, which everyone likes.”

Judging will be done by a four-panel team of judges from out of town, with the exception of the Best of Show and People’s Choice Awards for both a cars and trucks.

Entries will line up on SouthFirstStreetbetween First National Bank and theBankPark, andaround the corner to the north if needed.

The show is open to all classics, antiques, hot rods, customs, trucks, and more.

Several food vendors areexpectedtosetupatthe Bank Park during the day on Saturday, and at least one Bake Sale is planned.

Donations are always welcome to help with the expenses of the car show.
