I’ll Take the Oldies

I remember when my family bought their first TV (black and white of course).

It was so exciting to watch. We were limited then on channels, and it took a very funny metal thing placed on the roof to make it work.

One of my favorite shows on Friday and Saturday nights was “Command Performance.” It came on after the news report.

Most of these movies were made in the 30s & 40s. They would be comedy, drama, mystery, and romance. You learned to love all those stars.

We all had our special shows to watch. The westerns really came to life – Dodge City, Bonanza, Rifleman, and what seems like a million more.

I also loved the new variety shows they began to add. We got to see the performers on stage. We had listened to their music on records, but now we could watch them perform on stage.

We even saw the Beatles! for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show. That was so much talent at that time (real talent).

Just call me old fashioned. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take the oldies. The new stuff will never compare.
