Team plays well at Vernon

The Albany tennis team claimed three first-place finishes and a second from five doubles entries Wednesday, April 3 at the Vernon tournament.

The Lion netters return to the courts Thursday, April 11 (today) at the Abilene Christian tournament atRoseParkTennisCenter.

The meet is the final scheduledoutingbeforethe District 10-2A tournament April 22-23 at Rose Park, but Coach M.J. Reneau hopes to get in at least practice matches next week.

At Vernon, Cason Fairchild and Cade Fairchild won the boys doubles title in the Maroon Bracket, while Woods Peterson and Brayden Watson won boys doublesintheWhiteBracket. Mimi Ivy and Jaxson Street won mixed doubles in the White Bracket.

JaciChapmanandCaroline Chapman, paired for the first time this spring, finished second in girls doubles in the Maroon Bracket.AlsointheMaroon Bracket, the mixed doubles pair of Abi Hale and Jake Hale won two of their three matches.

“It was good that we got everyonematches,”Reneau said. “That’s important at this time of the season.”

Several players missed playing at Vernon and some will be absent today because of involvement in other activities.

Girls Doubles Maroon Bracket Jaci Chapman and Caroline Chapman def. Holliday 8-0; def. Burkburnett 8-0 in the semifinals; lost to Crowell 6-8 in the final.

Boys Doubles Maroon Bracket Cason Fairchild and Cade Fairchild def. Iowa Park 8-3; def. Burkburnett8-1;def.Henrietta8-6 in the semifinals; def. Vernon 8-5 in the final.

Mixed Doubles White Bracket Mimi Ivy and Jaxson Street def. Crowley 8-5; def. Quanah 8-5 in semifinals; def. Altus, Okla., 8-3 in final.
